« The creative HQ of Guéliz for fifteen years»
Incontournable

Kechmara has been the unofficial HQ of Gueliz's creative scene for fifteen years — and it has never needed to reinvent itself to stay relevant. It's the kind of place that ages well because it never tried to be trendy. A cafe by day, a bar by night, an art gallery at all times: the formula is simple, and it works.
The ground floor is an open space with wooden tables, white walls that change exhibitions monthly, and a counter where the barista makes decent coffee — which, in Marrakech, is already an achievement. The lunch menu is Franco-Moroccan: warm goat cheese salad, house burger, tagine of the day, quiche. Nothing revolutionary, everything well-executed. Portions are generous, prices reasonable (a dish between 70 and 120 dirhams).
The first-floor terrace is the real treasure. Overlooking Rue de la Liberte, it offers an ideal observation post on Gueliz life — passersby, scooters, street vendors. That's where regulars settle for the sundowner: a glass of Moroccan wine (the Boulaouane gris is the smart pick) or a simple cocktail, watching the sun drop behind the buildings.
Weekend brunch has become an institution. Pancakes, eggs benedict, avocado toast, fresh juices — the menu is resolutely international, and it draws a mix of young Marrakech professionals, expats, and informed tourists. Arrive before 11 AM for a terrace table.
The walls display local artists — painters, photographers, mixed-media artists. Thursday evening openings draw Gueliz's small arty scene and are an excellent introduction to contemporary Marrakech creation.
Kechmara earns its place because it's the kind of venue you recommend without hesitation: good at any hour, effortlessly welcoming, and as comfortable on a Tuesday morning as a Saturday night.
