« Five Saadian riads, a rooftop spa»
Incontournable

Five 16th-century riads, merged into a single 28-room hotel, at the foot of the Saadian Tombs. La Sultana is the kind of address that Morocco lovers keep to themselves — a discreet palace that refuses the prevailing minimalism and celebrates Moroccan craftsmanship in every square centimeter.
Each room is different. One is a festival of blue and white zellige, with a marble bathtub and a painted cedar ceiling. Another is a cocoon of terracotta tadelakt, with thuya furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The suites overlook the central patio or the gardens, and some have fireplaces for winter nights — yes, it gets cold in Marrakech in January, and La Sultana is one of the few riads that takes it seriously.
The rooftop spa is one of the property's jewels. Traditional hammam, heated pool, and treatment rooms with direct views of the Atlas and medina rooftops. The black soap and ghassoul ritual, followed by an argan oil massage, lasts two hours and leaves a lasting impression. Regulars book it upon arrival.
The restaurant serves refined Moroccan cuisine — the Friday royal couscous is an institution, and the seafood pastilla is an original creation worth the trip. In the evening, candlelit dinner in the patio is one of the most romantic experiences in the medina.
La Sultana's guests are often seasoned travelers who have already tried the big names and seek something more personal. The staff knows each guest's preferences, anticipates needs, and does it with a discretion not taught in hotel schools.
La Sultana earns its place because it proves that a hotel can be a living museum — a place where you sleep amid five centuries of history, without ever feeling like you're visiting a monument.
