« The rooftop overlooking Jemaa el-Fna»
Incontournable

Le Salama's rooftop is Marrakech's balcony over Jemaa el-Fna. From the terrace, the square spreads at your feet like an open-air theater: the storyteller circles, the orange juice vendors, the meat grill smoke rising in spirals, the tourists zigzagging, the Marrakchis cutting through without looking. At sunset, when the lights come on and the square takes on its nocturnal dimension, it's the most mesmerizing spectacle Marrakech can offer — and you have the best seat in the house.
Le Salama is a multi-level restaurant-bar, set in a riad on the edge of the square. The ground floor is a classic Moroccan restaurant — tagines, couscous, pastillas — decent without being exceptional. It's on the rooftop that the experience comes alive. The cocktails are well-made without being gastronomic: a solid mojito, a decent gin and tonic, a house cocktail with mint tea and vodka that has become a local classic. Expect 100 to 150 dirhams per cocktail.
The best moment is between 5 and 7 PM, when the sun drops, the light turns golden, and the square begins its evening transformation. Arrive early — the front-row tables, those directly overlooking the square, are taken by 5:30 PM.
In the evening, after 9 PM, the energy rises. Music moves from background to foreground, tables draw closer, and Le Salama becomes a full-fledged evening destination. Thursday and Friday nights are packed — bring patience or a reservation.
A detail regulars know: the small side terrace, less visible than the main terrace, offers a different angle on the square and is often free when everything else is full.
Le Salama earns its place because it holds the most iconic view in Marrakech — and had the intelligence to offer it with a cocktail in hand.
